Assange: ‘I’m probably OK to come out now, yeah?’

by philapilus

“I don’t get out much, but I thought the press would be the best people to ask about my chances for freedom, given their unimpeachable code of honour and great integrity.”

Julian Assange yesterday invited reporters to the Ecuadorian embassy, saying “I just wanted to see if you guys reckon I can come out of hiding yet?”

The Australian fled to the embassy two years ago to avoid extradition to Sweden on charges of sexual assault. He also fears incarceration by the US over the Wikileaks revelations.

Assange exhorted journalists to “Be honest; I really don’t want to make a boob here”, adding “but like, all that stuff was a

Thatcher “Dangerously insane” according to US intelligence reports

by philapilus
Margaret Thatcher with Ronald Reagan

For years she carried that cardboard cut-out wherever she went

US intelligence and diplomatic reports published by Wikileaks have shown that the Americans were aware Margaret Thatcher was “Mentally unstable and profoundly dangerous” as early as the mid-1970s.

Amongst the 1.7 million documents made available in a newly-searchable format online, are some 25,000 increasingly desperate warnings to the US government from the embassy in Britain.

“The new leader of the Conservative party is certainly psychotic, and if she became prime minister would represent a serious threat to world peace.” reads one early report from June 1975.

A day in the life: Julian Assange

by articulatedsheep

Occasionally we ask a prominent public figure to explain what they do on a typical day. This time, it’s the turn of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, currently holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

“Every day at the Embassy starts bright and early at 8.30am. Thanks to a complex system of bells and pulleys, from my bed I have immediate access to all the embassy staff, and as soon as I wake up I ring for the ambassador. Yesterday I had to give him a bit of a hard time because my egg had been over-boiled – I’m an easy-going guy and I don’t want to make a big thing out of it, but ultimately he has to understand that he has to be held accountable for his mistakes. I was, however, pleased with the warmth and texture of my toasty soldiers.

After a quick shower I start work for the day. I need space to carry out my vital duties as the world’s last, best defence against tyranny, and while the top two floors of the embassy are pretty poky, they just about suit my needs. At first some of the embassy staff complained that this, necessarily, meant that they were being confined to three rooms on the ground floor, but frankly that’s just the way it’s got to be.

“Rape, schmape” say experts

by philapilus
George Galloway

“No-one can complain if you just stick a finger in”

George Galloway has boldly entered the fray of the complex and nuanced debate over when forcibly sticking your cock inside someone else constitutes rape.

Galloway, proud winner of this year’s Oleaginous Little Prick Award, addressed the thorny issue of non-consensual sex on his weekly online broadcast ‘Goodnight with George Galloway’ – a programme which has higher viewer ratings than Morecambe and Wise at the height of their fame.

Galloway claimed that ramming the old todger inside someone who was asleep and couldn’t argue  was pretty much absolutely fine if they had already invited you to bed, and that “not everyone needs to be asked prior to each insertion”.
